“ALL” coaching process.

Through my reading on the subject of coaching I have come up with the “ALL” coaching process. I believe coaching is essentially a process of learning. I believe that when a person comes up with the answer themselves they are more likely to take action. Learning comes through the coach asking powerful questions. The “ALL” process is a sequence for a coach to follow to guide this learning. “ALL” stands for Ask, Listen, Learn.

The ALL process is: ASK > LISTEN > LEARN.

To expand the process further. First the coach asks the client a powerful question. Then the coach listens deeply to the clients response. Next, based on what they have learned, the coach asks another, more probing, question to dig deeper in to the initial response. After that the client listens to what they themselves have said. Following that, the client learns from what they have discovered. Finally the coach learns more about the client from this learning. Then the cycle begins again with another powerful question. The “ALL” process can be applied to defining goals, inner learning, as well as coming up with solutions.

Ask powerful questions.
What do you want?
What do you really want?
Why do you want it?

Listen deeply (with all senses.)
What does that mean?
What does that really mean?

Learn and take action.
What have you learned?
What are you going to do?
How are you going to do it?
